Randy made a couple of mission trips to Brazil playing basketball for a team from his church. While there he fell in love and became fluent in Portuguese .( talked it with a Texas drawl...but spoke it well ) . But he also picked up a disease which the doctors could never figure out. It gave him a year round tan , but left him with no strength at all....weak every day...even going to a baseball game wore him out . He went to take a nap one day and just didn't wake up . I have missed my good friend for many years now ....a truly nice guy .
YES, I REMEMBER THE TALKS WE HAD AFTER CHURCH ON SUNDAY EVENINGS. A LOT OF FRUSTRATIONS AND LAUGHTER CAME OUT OF THOSE VISITS. WAS FUN TALKING ABOUT THE "OLD" SCHOOL DAYS AT SOUTH HI MOUNT, STRIPLING AND HEIGHTS
Randy was a good basketball player and friend. We spent alot of time on the court practicing and playing basketball at AHHS. I ate alot of peanut butter sandwiches at his house for lunch since he lived so close to school. He left us way to soon.
Two things come to mind when I read of a classmate that has died much too young... You are dead a lot longer than you are alive. Make the most of the time we have on this earth. Secondly, the hearse they take you out on doesn't have a luggage rack. "Things" don't define us!Live for today!!!
Randy and I went to South Hi Mount and on together. We were the best of friends in elementary school and that kept going all the way through our times at Heights. He was such an easy-going great guy. I wish the world had more people like him today. And, it blows me away, that someone who I was so close to, just diasappeared out of my life as time moved on post AHHS. I really stink at staying in touch, but am finding out how valuable those relationships at Heights were.
Somewhere along the way someone started calling him "Rhonda". Not sure who started that but it stuck, at least in my mind. Miss that guy, and others from our class, immensely.

I'ts admirable that Randy did so much for his church and others.
We attended Stripling together, what a nice guy. We had a number of classes together as well.
The passing of classmates has helped me to have a better perspective, and has been a reminder to enjoy life
and appreciate each day.
