Saturday, Debbie Whitton was attacked by a bear in her backyard. While not impossible, the occurrence of black bear attacks in Tarrant County are extremely rare. According to reliable sources, Mrs. Whitton, thinking her husband was grabbing her in an affectionate bear hug from behind, twisted to return the embrace. The poor, startled bear reacted like any average bear would and grabbed Deb’s arm, almost dislodging it as she, realizing it wasn’t Jim at all, tried to escape. Debbie ran inside while Jim watched Olympics replays and yelled, “Honey, a bear just attacked me.”

Jim said, “Is the bear hurt? We don’t want to be held liable.”

In knee-buckling pain, Debbie screamed, “No, I’m hurt!”

Quick-minded Jim put some ice on Debbie’s shoulder and said, “Hold that there and I’ll take you to the emergency room.”

Jim found the emergency entrance on his first try which almost no one in a hurry ever does, and soon a doctor was at Debbie’s side.

While searching for the most sensitive spot in Debbie’s dislocated shoulder, the doctor asked,” Does that hurt?”

With her good arm, Debbie slapped him and answered, “What do you think? Does that?”

Debbie was released today to start an extensive rehabilitation period. Please keep her in your thoughts and drop her a card or message.

Haha Bill. Very clever story.
I was actually filling my bird house with seed. It's on a slope in my back yard, and hard to reach unless I'm on my tip toes. Anyway, I somehow lost my balance and fell on my right  shoulder, breaking it pretty bad. I now have a plate and 13 screws in my humerus and socket. But I'm home todayπŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Debbie... I would print Bill's story and read it whenever anyone asked what happened... much better story!  You could even add a little about your narrow escape...

Oh, Debbie! Hope you feel better and heal fast. I will recover with you as I am 5 days post surgery for a nasty rotator cuff. It's not for the faint of heart!!!❀️

Ladies! how terrible to spend time in the wonderful summer in surgery and recovery!!! ouch!!! please feel better soon as many of us who love being active are also finding that our bones, ligaments, jhoints and circulation are no longer keeping up with what our mind tells are bodies to do.....sigh.

Bill, your story is hilarious......YOU are hilarious. thanks for the morning chuckle. With the stock market rising again, it makes for another great day!

funny thing is....I heard an inspirational woman speaker recently who was out jogging and was subsequently chased by a black bear....her adrenaline took her up a tall aspen tree like a firepole (mature aspens typically don't have low limbs close to the ground) where she stayed until the growling bear lost interest.  when she stopped shaking and managed to come down from the tree and dash for the house, her husband gave her about the same responses in your story, Bill, untli he realized she was telling the truth! She is a petite 5'3" and her husband is a retired NFL football player. After the incident, he actually cut down a similar sized aspen tree, buried the tree trunk in their yard, marked off the distance she climbed straight up, and dares any visitors, college kids or football type friends to try and climb the "pole".  So far, none have beat her heroic climb! the rest of the story is that she observed while up in the tree, a baby cub wander out of the trees and rejoin his mother bear....yes, the one growling at the jogger...she had inadvertantlygotten between the mother and cub.....there is a reason we protective mothers are called "mother bears".

THANK YOU again to all of you who made our 50th reunion such a fun and memorable event last summer! I have enjoyed thinking of each of you as your birthday comes up and appreciating again, how special our class is and how unique our time together at Heights truly was.

Blessings and hugs,

Donna

Ha!  Bill you are a story teller in the first degree!  I am reminded by your tale here of Davy Crockett and how he once "grinned a bear to death"!  Where do you come up with this stuff?

Classmates, in all seriousness, I just finished reading Bill's book, "Selling Lies".  It is awesome!  I won't bore you with any of my observations other than the suggestion that this book, a fiction novel, tells a very current event story that will have you wrapped  up in it immediately.  As I understand it from Bill, he thought of the theme several years ago, not knowing what would actually be playing out in real time today.  Buy it.  Read it.  You will be glad you did.  As for the basis of this exchange, classmates, take care of yourselves!  We aren't beyond accidents and ailments any longer.  Debbie, Margaret, heal up!  And Donna you are spot on about our reunion and the amazing class we had.  I value the memories and friendships greatly.

Ok just curious ... has the website gone dark?  Last post I see in messages is from 10/4/24 and the latest headers are from the 50th...cant find the members or the list of those that have yet to be contacted?

Hi Doug,

The website is up and running.

In answer to your question about missing classmates, on the left hand column, click on classmates and you'll get a page that lists the entire class. Missing Members are shown with no symbols next to their name.

Let me know if that doesn't answer your question.

Regards,

Bill Davis
